Why do we need to set file permission correctly on our server to host our WordPress site? Security, which is the most important factors in server administration and site hosting.

First things first, is that we need to make the .htaccess file permission code of 644, which means that client or browsers can only read this file.

    chmod 644 .htaccess

Then we set the rest, directory with specific write permission only and for files. Just execute the command, this command is based on codex.wordpress.org recommendation permission.

    find . -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \
    find . -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \
    chown bytescrafter:bytescrafter -R *

Sometimes, those command block admin from updating or installing plugins for WordPress via admin menu, so we need to execute this command to correct that issue.

    chown -R www-data:www-data *

Now, all things set you can now install all other packages that you will be using. See, Server Admin: Basic Manual for Performance and Security forum for more server administration and Easiest way of having a site is WordPress for other WordPress codex tutorial.
